Long-Term Care Guide

Our products are built to last — but a little regular care goes a long way. Use the guide below to keep every surface and finish looking its best.

Outdoor Kitchen

DO'S

  • Plan for your outdoor kitchen to be installed in a sheltered or undercover area to maximise product longevity and performance.
  • Design your outdoor kitchen to be user friendly and to fit well within the proposed area.
  • Check guidelines with your gas supplier to ensure there is adequate ventilation for your BBQ, as required by law.
  • Ensure all required electrical and plumbing fittings are installed by licensed tradespeople prior to installation of your kitchen.
  • Use the BBQ cabinet as the primary starting point for installation in a straight kitchen, or in a corner kitchen, install the corner cabinet first.
  • Unless using a natural gas bayonet point, a gas bottle cabinet must be positioned either to the left or right side of the BBQ cabinet.
  • Confirm the width, depth, and hood clearance dimensions of your BBQ appliance before selecting the appropriate BBQ cabinet (note the depth of our benchtops is 700mm).
  • Check that the BBQ appliance has self-supporting feet positioned within the front edge of the benchtop to ensure stability and safe operation.
  • Install all cabinetry on a stable, structurally suitable surface to ensure correct alignment and long-term durability (our cabinetry is supplied with adjustable legs to ensure levelling can be achieved).
  • Regularly inspect and maintain cabinets, appliances, fittings, and surfaces to protect against weather exposure and general wear.

DON'Ts

  • Do not install your Ünterro outdoor kitchen in direct sunlight or areas exposed to prolonged weather conditions without adequate protection.
  • Do not install on elevated decks, balconies, or suspended structures without first confirming the load-bearing capacity of the area.
  • Indicative weight of a BBQ cabinet with a 6-burner BBQ appliance may exceed 300kg per m².
  • Do not install the kitchen against walls or surfaces containing combustible materials unless compliant clearances and protective measures are in place.
  • Do not install BBQ appliances in areas that have inadequate ventilation.
  • Do not modify cabinetry, stone benchtops, ventilation openings, or structural components without prior approval, as this may void warranties.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or pressure washers on cabinetry, benchtops, or finishes.
  • Do not overload drawers, shelves, or cabinets beyond their recommended weight capacity.
  • Do not proceed with installation until all gas, electrical, and plumbing works have been completed by appropriately licensed tradespeople.
  • Do not operate BBQ appliances until all installation checks, gas connections, and safety clearances have been verified.

Indoor Kitchen

DO'S

  • Please double check all parts when they arrive against your order list.
  • Kitchen parts and benchtops should be stored indoors at normal room temperature and humidity.
  • Use a qualified professional to disconnect and connect your gas, water, and electricity.
  • Please note the highest point of your floor and where corners are not 90 degrees.
  • Make sure tall and base cabinet feet have been adjusted to the correct height and that all cabinets are level.
  • For safety and functionality, ensure the rangehood is mounted at the recommended height above the cooktop — at least 660mm from the top of your cooktop.
  • For a straight-line kitchen with a high cabinet at one end, install the high cabinet first.
  • For an L-shaped kitchen, install the corner cabinets first, with a corner carousel if applicable.
  • For an island kitchen, ensure electricity, plumbing, or floor heating is already installed as required.
  • We recommend allowing 1200mm from the benchtop on the island to the opposite cabinet or appliance.
  • Always use personal protective equipment when cutting and installing your benchtops, and wear safety goggles when using power tools.

DON'Ts

  • Do not place your fridge and cooking appliances next to one another.
  • Do not forget to leave a minimum of 300mm clearance on either side of any cooktop to any pantries or panels.
  • Do not install onto a stud wall, concrete, brick, or another surface without consulting your hardware or installation specialist.
  • Do not drill screws too far into the door panels — always drill from inside the cabinet into the door panels and use stick-on screw caps to hide screw holes.
  • When cutting or drilling panels, always have the good side facing up and protect the area using masking tape.
  • Do not place hot items directly onto your benchtop, as this will cause damage to the surface.
  • Do not cut directly onto your benchtop, as this could create fine scratches.
  • Do not leave exposed edges or cut-outs without sealing with a suitable water-proofing sealant.
  • Do not use saturated cloths, harsh chemicals, or thinner-based cleaners, as these will damage the surface of your doors. Never use products that will scratch the surface, such as steel wool or wire brushes, and avoid sharp objects that will scratch, cut, or gouge the door surface.
  • Ünterro cabinets are water resistant, not waterproof (except vanity and outdoor cabinets), so any spills should be attended to immediately.

Outdoor Doors, Drawer Fronts, Seen Rails & Kickboard

Manufactured from porcelain, which is durable, impervious to sunlight, and wear resistant, this material is ideal for outdoor areas. To maintain your porcelain, periodically clean with a soft cloth moistened with plain water. Mild detergent can be added to plain water for spills.

Indoor Doors, Drawer Fronts, Seen Rails & Kickboard

Manufactured from 18mm moisture resistant MDF formed on the face and edges with a hard, scratch resistant and exceptionally durable polyurethane Italian paint finish or engineered wood veneers, both these door finishes are ideal for indoor use. To keep your doors looking good, wipe down using a damp soft cloth containing warm soapy water or use a good quality streak free glass cleaner.

Dry using a soft cloth so as not to leave any residue. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, solvents, turpentine, ammonia, bleach, or acetone when cleaning your doors and panels, and avoid contact with sharp implements.

Outdoor Kitchen, Laundry & Vanity Cabinets

All outdoor and wet-area cabinets are manufactured using EvoTuff 16mm Natural Fibre Board, which is waterproof and recyclable. To maintain the appearance and longevity of your cabinetry:

  • Clean spills immediately once noticed.
  • Avoid leaving standing water or excessive moisture inside cabinets.
  • Wipe surfaces regularly using a soft cloth and mild cleaning solution.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or excessive impact on surfaces.

Indoor Kitchen Cabinets

All indoor kitchen cabinets are made from 16mm high moisture resistant E1 grade particle board bonded on the edges with environmentally friendly and recyclable ABS products. As soon as any spills are noticed inside a cabinet, immediately clean the surface.

Door Hinges, Soft Close Runners & Pull-Out Accessories

These can be cleaned periodically with a clean dry cloth. Ensure moving parts are free from foreign matter and any liquid spills.

Stone Benchtops & Stone Ends

For regular cleaning, use a soft cloth dampened with clean water. Where required, a mild detergent may be added. To maintain the quality and appearance of your stone surfaces:

  • Clean spills immediately to minimise the risk of staining from substances such as coffee, tea, oils, or red wine.
  • Granite surfaces are sealed after installation and selected for their low porosity, and should be resealed periodically once water no longer beads on the surface.
  • Use only stone-safe cleaning and sealing products from reputable hardware retailers.
  • Avoid placing excessively hot items directly onto the surface, as thermal shock may cause cracking.

Minor scratches from everyday use are considered normal wear and tear and will not affect the functional performance of the benchtop.
